Climate ready comprehensive planning

North Kingstown is a coastal New England town that is defined by its relationship to the Narragansett Bay: scenic beaches and marinas, maritime industries, historic Wickford village, and the Quonset/Davisville military complex and port that today as the Quonset Business Park is one of the biggest economic success stories in the State of Rhode Island. These features define the town but are also the most impacted by coastal hazards and sea level rise. 

Wickford Village is the historic heart of North Kingstown and also most vulnerable to sea level rise. 

The update of the comprehensive plan provides an opportunity to address climate change and weave it into how the town grows and adapts over the next 20 years. As a citizen-driven guide for the future of the town, the comprehensive plan explores strategies to accommodate growth and diversification while strengthening the scenic and historic qualities residents prize most about the town, protecting valuable natural resources, and improving connections throughout town.
